From Fairways to Global Impact: The Story of The 153rd Open

Royal Portrush once again took centre stage on the global sporting scene as host of The 153rd Open in July 2025, delivering one of the most successful sporting events ever staged in Northern Ireland and showcasing the region to a truly global audience.

The Open 2025 attracted a record 278,000 spectators to the North Coast, with almost 60% visiting from outside Northern Ireland, delivering substantial benefits for the region's tourism industry and local economy. 

The stunning backdrop of Royal Portrush and the wider Causeway Coast was showcased to millions of viewers around the world, placing Northern Ireland's world-class golf, tourism and hospitality offering firmly in the global spotlight. Audiences witnessed not only breathtaking landscapes and championship golf, but also the warmth of the region's renowned Giant Spirit welcome. 

Beyond the action on the course, The 153rd Open generated more than £280 million in economic and destination marketing benefits, further enhancing Northern Ireland's reputation as a leading destination for tourism, golf and major events.
